VELUX Award 2006 for Students of Architecture
« on: November 05, 2005, 10:30:55 AM »
VELUX invites students of architecture to participate in the International VELUX Award 2006.

The award takes place every second year and is open to students worldwide. The award wants to celebrate and promote excellence in completed study works and to acknowledge students as well as their tutors; therefore the tutors of the projects are awarded alongside their students.

The overall award theme is "Light of Tomorrow", reflecting a wish to explore and discuss the role of daylight in architecture. Daylight and sunlight are important factors in how buildings are perceived and in the daily lives of people, their health and comfort at home or at work.

Award themes
The International VELUX Award encourages projects that go to the edge and demonstrate experimental thinking on daylight and its role in architecture. There are no specific award categories but entries may focus on:
The contribution of daylight to high visual quality and interior comfort that add quality to people’s lives and living conditions
The rethinking of daylight in urban living contexts (e.g. city densification, area shortage, or the polyvalent city)
The contribution of daylight to sustainable architecture
Concepts, e.g. daylight versus artificial light, day versus night, or in versus out
It is important to emphasise that the award is not limited to the use of VELUX products, but seeks to explore the boundaries of visual daylight quality, aesthetics, functionality, sustainability, and the interaction of buildings with their environment.
