International Conference on Planning and Designing of Healthcare

Dear Fellow Professional

Globally, healthcare systems are experiencing increasing fiscal, demographic and consumer pressure. There have been metamorphic changes in the recent past in the sphere of healthcare delivery. The planning, design and final architectural expression in health care is reflective of the gradual shift in outlook of healthcare institutions from merely treating the sick to a concerted approach to harness healthy living. This has been triggered by globalization, increased expectations of
seekers and providers of health care and the participation of private players in the health sector.

In our pursuit for knowledge and vision for the profession, a three days International Conference on Planning and Designing of Healthcare Facilities is being jointly organized by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi as part of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations in collaboration with the School of Planning and Architecture, (SPA), New Delhi, The Indian Institute of Architects
(IIA), International Conference on Medical Architecture (ICMA) and the South Asian Conference on Synergy in Healthcare (SASHCON), at Hotel Cidade de Goa, Goa from 15-17 September, 2006 The main objectives of the conference will be to:

Deliberate the emerging trends in planning and designing of healthcare facilities.

Highlight the changing role of future hospitals in the evolving healthcare environment.

Establish dynamic networks between the diverse disciplines of medicine, architecture, financing & management and integrate them for evolving patient-focused and environment-friendly trends in hospital planning and design.

Assess the future projections for the healthcare sector and financing of healthcare facilities.

Explore the avenues for integration of Information Technology in healthcare delivery as a virtual outreach arm of multi-specialty care.

Deliberate on the issues concerned with strengthening of healthcare facilities in urban and rural setting at primary, secondary and tertiary levels.

Some of the thrust areas proposed to be discussed are:

Planning principles and design considerations in healthcare facilities
Emerging issues and strategic options in Medical Architecture
Designing for Accreditation
Healing Architecture
Energy Efficient Hospitals
Financing of Healthcare Institutions
Role of Public Private Partnership and Outsourcing in Healthcare
Intelligent Buildings
Telemedicine and beyond
Facility Management
Patient focused Architecture
Evidence based Designs
Environment friendly hospitals & Green buildings
Value added Services
Ambulatory Care Systems and Day Care Facilities
Mobile Hospitals and Disaster units

The WHO has highlighted the importance of a multisectoral approach in the delivery of healthcare. It has floated the concept of " Working together for health" as the theme for the sixth year of this millennium. The conference is a stepping stone in this direction. In view of this about 350 select experts are expected to participate in this conference which includes Hospital Promoters, Healthcare/ Hospital Policy Makers, representation from Financial Institutions, Facility Managers including Banking and Insurance Services, Health and Hospital Administrators, Hospital Planners and Project Consultants, Engineers, Architects, Equipment Manufacturers and Distributors and experts from the construction industry.
