it would be naive to expect the indus valley to influence us in any way, but i guess we'll have to accept the fact that our culture is in essence a hetrogeneous one. having lived under surveilance for centuries, only over the last 50 years gain9ing independence.
drawing from gautam bhatias ideas, the cities we live in are no longer coherent wholes, but mishmashes of spectacularly varied aspirations of the populace. all the isms which happened or are still happening in the west are reduced to facades, and builder options. maximum square footage is the key. not a penny to be wasted.
india is the real world. no one has money to throw away. the standard of living ensures the jugadu nature of our country. this complex set of phenomenon can not possibly be reduced to one of the elitist design movements of the west, where population is low, income is high and therefore space is rendered luxuriously.
deconstruction is the future, it is the questioning of the past, which is always the future, so i'm not in anyway taking away from the influences we can and should imbibe, having learnt everthing from the west anyway. all i say is the time has come to address our own problems.
