PGI TO COMMENCE MASTERS PROGRAMME IN MEDICAL ARCHITECTURE AND HOSPITAL ENGINEERING

The National Centre for Hospital Engineering and Architecture (NCHEA), under the aegis of Institute of Hospital Engineering at PGI Chandigarh, is commencing a masters programme in medical architecture and hospital engineering at the Institute.

Dr. R. Chandrashekar, Senior Architect, Central Design Bureau for Medical and Health Buildings, Directorate General of Health Services, said “The course has specially been designed for the health planners, hospital administrators, nurses, hospital engineers and architects.”

The governing body of this course would comprise eminent personalities from the Punjab University and PGI. While the curriculum and course methodology is under formulation, talks are on with various universities for affiliation. “It could be a distance learning postgraduate diploma course, modalities of which are being worked out. There could be foreign collaborations as well” informed Dr. Chandrashekhar, speaking at a seminar on design and planning of operation theatres organized jointly by the Indian Institute of Architects (Northern Chapter) and Interbuild India at New Delhi in September 2004.
