values in proessional practice!

is professional practise in india leading to some landmark in global architecture or it is just making money? i think any golden era in history had been golden because some values and principles were thoght it off.but i feel modern architecture in india have no values or if it is there ,it is just 1%. architecture is reflection of society or it is creation of scoiety?

I think we are not looking at the total picture and trying to make a summary observation based on current trends in metropolitan cities. The picture is not so bleak in the other cities, where many architects are producing create, original & value added architecture, rich with the Indian context, taking lessons from the vernacular, doing experiments. The fate of architecture in India is not based only on what you see in places like Mumbai & Delhi, which are dominated by the buildiers who use architecture as a salabel commodity. We need to publicise the alternative trends, which give a ray of hope to the budding professionals and not to worry about the commercial aspects.

YES WHATEVER YOU HAD SAID IT IS TRUE. BUT THE QUESTION ARISES WHY SUCH ORGINAL WORK BY GOOD ARCHITECTS ARE NOT IN FOCUS? WHY THE ARCHITECTURE OF WHOLE INDIA CONVEYED TO WORLD IS ONLY REPRESENT      BY METROPOLTIAN CITIES NOT FROM SMALLER CITIES?IT MEANS THERE IS MISUSE OF MEDIA OR PUBLICATIONS?

GLOBALISATION IS THE ONE WORD RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THIS. IN INDIA GOOD ARCHITECTURE MEANS STRUCTURAL GLAZED FULLY AIRCONDITIONED BUILDINGS WITH SOME GREEN IN THE FRONT AND LOT OF DUCTS, PIPES AND OTHER NASTY THINGS AT THE BACK. IT IS A STUPID IDEA TO USE A FULLY AIRCONDITIONED GLAZED BUILDING IN INDIAN CLIMATE. ALL OUR STATES RUN SHORT OF ELECTRICITY BUT ALL THE MULTINATIONAL SOFTWARE COMAPNIES WASTE ELECTRICIY IN HI-TECH COOILING. THEY ALSO ALLOW THE HEAT TO COME IN BY MEANS OF GLASS FACADE. THERE SHOULD BE SOME LEGAL INTERVENTION NEEDED TO CONTROL THIS STUPID DEVELOPMENT.

Yea it is true that architecture has become a business rather than an art.
the speed at which this is done as  a business is reflected in some architectural projects.
It is sad that this has to be stopped so that we would be able to compete with foriegn architects who are coming in.

you know why hafeez contractor is so sucessfull as compared to charles correa ,b.v. doshi etc . because he understand how to sell architecture , he is not attached with emotions values etc. so the question arises who is sucessfull a person like hafeez or charles correa , b.v. doshi etc. values are important or just making money? if it is money then why? is there need to change our direction of modern indian architecture?

Ancient India is seen today by its rich architecture, be it a fusion of ethnicity as seen in Fathepur shikhri or ages old Ajanta Elora or the Gharwal temples. If you would notice, one thing is common. These structures foster, sustainability based on the environment.

Even if it is for money, still we can mange to have projects that develops sustainable communities rather than a rich facade in the front and a claustrophobic behind. Even if Mumbai and Delhi is taken over by Builders, why is that not a situation in places like Singapore, Shanghai or Kualampur? With 40% of Indian revenue generated in Mumbai, why is there not a petronas tower or a structure developed in last 25 years that someone would admire. It has to do more with the will and determination of the architects and the builders, that we are lacking.
