Idealy yes you need a highend laptop.

A celeron based machine is a complete no.  So are the new Atom based processors.

Go in for 2-3 GB of RAM 160 GB plus of HDD and core2duo processor. and if you plan to do a lot of heavy photoshop work or 3d rendring the above system will just about make it buy not fly.

Dear forum member, what would be an ideal laptop for architects. Hope it’s not a stupid question. Do we need high end laptops, I’m just curious as I’ll be enrolling for my architect course. Thanks in advance.

10 Tips to Save Energy (and Money) in Your Home
A whopping 46 percent of home energy use is, umm, energy loss! In other words, no productive energy use at all! Here are simple ways of reversing this, mostly by changes of habit.

1. Each degree you turn down the heat saves 3 percent of heating costs, while each degree you raise the temperature of your air conditioner saves 3-4 percent of cooling costs. By changing the temperature by 2 degrees all year, you can save about 2,000 pounds of C02 a year.

2. Cook with a slow cooker or a toaster oven (or even a solar oven!) to reduce electrical use from kitchen appliances. For a meal that requires one hour to cook in an electric oven, and which uses 2.7 pounds of C02, a crockpot uses 0.9 pounds of C02 for seven hours, a toaster oven takes 1.3 pounds of C02 for 50 minutes, and a microwave only 0.5 pounds of C02 for 15 minutes of cooking. A solar cooker requires NO C02!

3. Switch to a laptop instead of using a desktop computer and cut three-quarters off your electrical use. Turn off the laptop at the end of the day.

4. Switch to cold water washing and save 80 percent on energy used for laundry and save an estimated $60 a year. Hang dry your clothes instead of using the dryer and save 700 pounds of C02 a year.

5. Plug anything that can be powered by a remote control or that has a power cube transformer (little black box) into a power strip, and turn it off, and/or unplug, when not in use. (Power cubes are 60-80 percent inefficient.)

6. Turn off the lights when you aren’t using them and reduce your direct lighting energy use by 45 percent. Stop using heat-producing halogen lamps (they can also be fire hazards). Install occupancy or motion sensors on outdoor lights.

7. Switch to compact fluorescent from regular incandescent bulbs and use 60 percent less energy per bulb and save 300 pounds of C02 a year.

8. Wrap your water heater in an insulation blanket and save 1,000 pounds of C02 a year. Insulate your hot water pipes.

9. Use public transportation whenever possible, carpool, shop locally, and ideally switch to a hybrid or energy-efficient car (if you haven’t already).

10. Keep your tires inflated to improve gas mileage by 3 percent. Every gallon you save also saves 20 pounds of C02 emissions.

Hi We design and install glazed structures, be it walkways, canopies, or Glazed buildings basically anything where you are looking to put glass, aluminium, steel together. These can be glazed walkways around outside shopping areas or entrance canopies for hotels. We wondered if there is a Market for this in India. We would look to partner someone, perhaps a steel company who is looking to provide additional services.

Your Green Streetscape

The outdoors play an equally important role in our lives as the indoors, the roads and streets. We traverse through form a vital part of these outdoors. We travel to work, we travel to home, we travel to shop, we travel to vacation, we travel just for the pure joy of travelling, and these streets link us to various important places in our daily life and almost link our life. As a comfortable and pleasing room can influence a person’s frame of mind so can a street.
The design of the street and streetscape decide whether one enjoys or confronts the street he is going to take. The role of the street is social as well as utilitarian.  The street is a place where one should feel at ease in the company of strangers as he does with those familiar.
Friedrich Nietzsche, the German philosopher once said – ‘All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking’. The street a person walks through every day can sub-consciously mould him, a person who tackles uncertain pathways and shady experiences will have a different mindset than a person who takes a nice, delightful stroll every day.
Hence the street, traversing which we spend a significant portion of our lives; the street which shapes our path, sways our moods and through which innumerable vehicles pass, should also be energy sensitive. Streets can be designed to encourage pedestrians and bicyclists over automobiles; they can have significant greenery in the form of streetscapes and trees. Many green aspects like, recycling, efficient water management etc can apply to streets also.

Light and Architecture: Transparency and Virtuality

Light and Architecture have influenced and complemented each other to create, orient and define a space or facade. Through the ages, light has been one of the less mentioned basic necessities of man. Windows, light shelves and a variety of other elements in architecture owe their existence partly to the struggle to permit light. Then came the era when mankind discovered ways and means of getting his precious light without being dependant on sun or by caging fire as a lamp. Lights became available in a variety of forms and suited for specific purposes. 
Until a century ago, the architect just picked and chose from a variety of light fittings, now we have gone a step further; lighting is seen as a hi-tech team effort between lighting designers, architects, engineers and even façade specialists.  Artificial light has brought about a revolution in the way a city is experienced; the night has come to life! Light architecture introduced a new trend that signifies "light"- in the sense of illumination, technology and architecture’s often ironic view of itself.
We know have energy efficient lighting fixtures that respond to human presence and even moods.
 This cell of paper presentation aims at bringing in new avenues of ‘light in architecture’ in the future and welcoming innovations in using both natural and artificial sources of light in building a green globe. Form and space conceived in the mind is conveyed through a medium which in turn passes through many hands and achieves completion as architecture.  This ‘medium’ hence plays an important role in the realization of a design and can dominate enough to constrain or liberate an idea. Two dimensional representations of drawings on paper or similar material performed this elite function since time immemorial. With the advent of technology this field also got revolutionised and thereby allowed architects to design forms that could not have been visualised in the past; irregular, curvilinear, jagged, it all can be done.
Technology has also enabled us to study terrains, earlier considered inaccessible, present them accurately and suggest remedies to make them not only accessible but also habitable. Digital expertise has definitively modified our approach to space and form, allowing us to work with vectored fields and topological geometries, at an extensive pace. 
In the recent projects having fluid forms, quiet a number of them look like they have spaces which are extremely inefficient. The success of such designs sometimes leads to a blind similar pursuit, resulting in the loss of functionality and ambience of intended spaces in the process.
The digital medium has made it possible to experiment and realise almost any complicated form, has technology then completely bridged the gap between concept and built form?  Or has it shortened the much valued thinking process?
A paper presentation identifying the importance and relevance of morphogenetic logic and digital form in architecture is invited in this cell of IDEAZ.
